Edmonton Oilers general manager Stan Bowman just issued updates concerning Evander Kane and Darnell Nurse.

It was announced earlier this week that Evander Kane will be undergoing surgery to repair a sports hernia, and Darnell Nurse is battling lingering injuries suffered through the 2024 post season. Bowman had this to say regarding Kane's timeline:

"He's going to be out a while," Bowman said.

On the other hand, Nurse will be missing training camp is is expected not to play any pre-season games, whereas Evander Kane will be undergoing surgery "very" soon as per Jim Matheson.

According to sportsnet, there is no exact timetable for Nurse's return yet, and Bowman said Kane will miss all of training camp and the beginning of the regular season, possibly extending until Christmas time.

The Oilers GM also confirmed that Kane will not start the season on LTIR, but added the team may consider it if it needs the cap flexibility during the season.

According to PuckPedia, Edmonton has $946,000 in cap space as the 2024-25 season nears. That includes Kane's $5.125-million AAV.

Kane, 33, played through the injury last season, though it eventually sidelined him in the Stanley Cup Final, where he missed five of seven games. He had 24 goals and 20 assists in 77 regular-season games before adding four goals and four assists in 20 playoff games.

Although Evander Kane is not expected to start the season on LTIR, it still remains a viable option for GM Bowman down the line if cap flexibility is needed.
