Breaking news in Oil Country as hockey analysts around the NHL are predicting that the Edmonton Oilers are expected to claim Nashville Predators defenceman Dante Fabbro on waivers.

It was recently announced that the Nashville Predators have placed Dante Fabbro on waivers, presenting a golden opportunity for the Oilers to secure some help. Fabbro is a former first round draft pick with solid offensive upside.

It's no secret by now that GM Stan Bowman has been on the hunt for a right hand shot defenceman to help bolster the Edmonton Oilers back-end, and a golden opportunity has now presented itself on a silver platter.

According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Fabbro was a first round draft pick of the Predators in 2016, and has gone on to play 315 career games in Nashville. He's posted decent analytical results through his whole career, but has begun to fall out of the lineup with the Predators, and has only played 6 games this year. He's only under contract for this season at $2.5M.

Just earlier today, Elliotte Friedman named the Oilers and Predators as potential trade partners in the near future. Edmonton would clearly be interested in a player like Fabbro but may not be able to take his full $2.5M salary. If Fabbro passes through waivers, it's possible the Oilers make a trade for him with retained salary.

Dante Fabbro is now on waivers and would be a direct fit for the Oilers. Fabbro is a 26 year old right shot defenceman that's routinely put up good analytics results, and has only one year left on his contract paying him an affordable $2.5M.

Oilers Insider are staying tuned for an official announcement regarding the acquisition.
