It was announced yesterday that the Oilers placed Josh Brown, Raphael Lavoie, Olivier Rodrigue, and Drake Caggiula on waivers. But now, the Las Vegas Golden Knights have swooped and and laid their claim on top prospect Raphael Lavoie.
As per CBS, Lavoie was picked up off waivers by Vegas from Edmonton on Monday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Lavoie has just seven games of NHL experience, all of which came last season. In those outings, the 24-year-old center notched four shots, 13 hits and two PIM while failing to get onto the scoresheet. Even with the move to Vegas, Lavoie is far from a lock for the lineup on a nightly basis and will have to compete with the likes of Keegan Kolesar and Victor Olofsson for minutes.
According to PuckPedia, Raphael Lavoie is currently signed to a 1-year contract with a cap hit of $775,000 per season. His contract expires at the end of the 2024-25 season, when Lavoie is 24 years old.
Drafted by the Oilers back in 2019, Raphael Lavoie has slowly emerged as one of the top prospects on the Oilers. Raphael Lavoie had a decent training camp and was considered a lock to make the team, but found himself being outperformed in the late stages of the preseason by players like Noah Philp. Raphael Lavoie was also shaken up during training camp and found himself sidelined for a crucial game, which ultimately contributed to him being out performed.
Now, The Las Vegas Knights have swept the rug under the Oilers feet, and Lavoie will now be looking to crack the Golden Knights starting roster. Hopefully this doesn't come back to haunt the Oilers in the near future.
