Breaking news in the NHL as Toronto Maple Leafs all-star forward William Nylander has been forced to leave the game due to a scary situation.

Although this is usually a strictly Oilers only website, we would be remise not to mentioned the scary incident that occurred in a preseason matchup tonight between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens.

As per sportsnet, The incident occurred at the 7:44 mark of the first period as the Leafs were chasing down the Canadiens in transition. Teammate Nick Robertson pushed Nylander with the end of his stick, knocking him onto the ice and into the leg of Montreal's Christian Dvorak.

Nylander stayed down on the ice and grabbed at his head after the play. He immediately went to the team's locker room. He didn't play another shift in the first period and did not return to the ice for the second. The Maple Leafs said he was removed for precautionary reasons.

The 28-year-old had a standout year with Toronto last season, appearing in all 82 regular season games and finishing with 40 goals and 58 assists for 98 points. He also had three goals in four games in the playoffs.

Oilers fans have gotten fairly familiarized with Nick Robertson the past few weeks, there were rumours that surfaced of a potential trade to Edmonton, but ultimately, nothing came to fruition.

As per Liam McCormick from Oilers Daily, Obviously it's a bad break for William Nylander to potentially sustain an injury in a meaningless game, but it's also tough for Nick Robertson. The young Leafs forward request a trade this summer, but he's struggled to actually break onto the Leafs roster and there was little interest in him. This incident won't be good for his confidence at least, and probably won't impress any pro scouts either. It's a real lose lose play for all involved.

Hopefully Nylander is okay, although there's no love lost between Oilers and Leafs fans, it's never fun to see an NHL player be involved in a collision like that.
