Yegor Sorokin passes away at the age of 27
Breaking news in the world of hockey as another very young hockey player is taken way too soon.
According to Blade of Steel, Sorokin played five years in Russia's MHL with Yekaterinburg Auto Jr, Nizhnekamsk Reaktor, Volzhsk & Ufa Tolpar participating in 205 games. During that time the 6-foot defenceman had 55 points including back-to-back twenty-assist seasons. In Russia's VHL Sorokin played in 91 games for Volzhsk Ariada-Akpars, Perm Molot-Prikamye, Uchaly Gornyak & Samara CSK VVS. He contributed with 4 goals to go along with five assists between 2016-2021.
Sorokin was a promising defenceman in Russian VHL, with aspirations of eventually signing with the KHL. The KHL is considered the second best hockey league in the world, and Sorokin was slowly climbing his way up to that goal.
Although the details of his death have no been made known to the public yet, the hockey world is seeing an alarming trend of extremely young hockey players passing away.
Even yesterday, the hockey world is mourning the tragic passing of former NCAA hockey star Chad Demers who lost his battle with cancer.
Chad Demers was a former college hockey star, a beloved father, and a reputable hockey coach. He was unfortunately diagnosed with Grade 4 Glioblastoma in September 2018, but continued to work in hockey full time throughout intensive cancer treatment.
Far too often we hear about the passing of persons who have been taken from us far too soon by circumstances beyond anyone's control. While this is another sad example, the hope is that Yegor's short life can be celebrated for not only the hockey player he was but the person he was as well because the game and chasing a dream were just a small part of who Yegor was.
