According to Pierre Dorion, General Manager of the Ottawa Senators, the rebuilding phase is over, and it's time for the team to compete for a playoff spot. Dorion made a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks to acquire Alex DeBrincat and also signed Claude Giroux as a free agent. Despite a decent 37-35-7 record this season, the Senators couldn't make it to the playoffs and finished sixth in the Atlantic Division. Their hopes of making the playoffs ended after a 7-2 defeat against the Florida Panthers on Thursday night.
The Senators and their fans have a long and tough summer ahead, but with some minor changes and a strong number one goaltender, the team could certainly become a playoff contender next season.
