Dylan Holloway scrutinizes the Edmonton Oilers
Dylan Holloway, a former member of the Edmonton Oilers has recently opened up about his feelings regarding leaving the organization.
Last week, the Edmonton Oilers fell victim to losing two key members of their club to the St. Louis Blues. Both Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway signed two offer sheets, and are now the newest members of the Blues franchise.
According to Andy Strickland's «Hockey Sense»podcast, Holloway's statement that the Edmonton Oilers were aware of St. Louis' intention to give offer sheets to him and Philip Broberg well ahead of the actual offer sheets. This has caused intense conversation about Stan Bowmans handling of both Broberg and Holloway.
«We knew about the offer sheet before we had any negotiations with Edmonton, which was kind of weird. We were trying to get a deal done. I don't think we were asking for anything crazy at all. If anything we were very upfront with Edmonton the whole time, even about the whole offer sheet. We explained, Hey, this was an option for us. Can we get a deal?' And it was weird the way they handled it. I felt I had no other option but to sign the offer sheet.» said Holloway
Dylan Holloway admits that the way the Oilers handled the situation was "weird". Holloway made it very clear that he wanted to remain in Edmonton, but navigating a tight salary cap ultimately forced a tough situation for GM Stan Bowman.
David Staples, a highly respected sports writer for the Edmonton Journal gives his take on Holloway's criticism of the Edmonton Oilers.
"As for Holloway's assertion that Edmonton's negotiating stance with him was «weird,» I don't buy it in the least. It was no doubt Holloway's subjective experience, but I don't see it as objectively fair or accurate"
Edmonton is in a salary cap bind. They have been since Edmonton's hockey boss Jeff Jackson spent over the cap during the free agency period. Jackson did so by bringing back the team's escellent checking line (Adam Henrique, Mattias Janmark and Connor Brown) and signing quality newcomers Viktor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner. Said Staples Although Holloway's comments about the Oilers handling of the offer sheet situation has stirred up some drama, the deal is done. Holloway is a skilled depth player who will be missed on the Oilers bottom 6, but a new opportunity to assert himself in St. Louis as a top player will be a great opportunity for him.
