However, if the Flames delay hiring a general manager, they may have a good opportunity should the Toronto Maple Leafs lose the series. Although nothing is certain, it seems that the Maple Leafs may face elimination tonight.
Kyle Dubas, a younger GM is known for building teams based on analytics, may become available for the Flames.
Dubas began his career at 17 as a scout with the SOO Greyhounds in the OHL and later returned in 2011 as a GM. He worked his way up through the AHL until he was promoted to Toronto Maple Leafs GM by Brendan Shanahan in 2018. Dubas built a Calder Cup-winning team with the Marlies but has yet to replicate that success in the big leagues.
During his time in Toronto, he has made successful trades, acquiring players such as Jake Muzzin, TJ Brodie, Ryan O'Reilly, and Noel Acciari.
If Dubas becomes available, it wouldn't hurt Calgary ownership to consider him, especially if they want to stay competitive during the Battle of Alberta. Only time will tell what happens in Toronto.
