Ben Stelter, the six-year-old superfan of the Edmonton Oilers ranged across last year's playoffs when he attended 10 home games for the Oilers were all victories.
Stelter was suffering from glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. No matter how hard it was for him and his family to go through his treatments, he still attended the games and cheered on the home team he loved.
Unfortunately, on August 10th, 2022, the world lost Ben Stelter. An outpouring of sympathy and condolences swept through the NHL and their fan bases for this amazing boy. It was an incredible thing to see.
Fast forward to this year's playoffs, Connor McDavid went to Twitter and dedicated this year's playoffs to Ben's memory.
His story captured the Oilers' teammates, management and coaching staff. It also showed the excellence that the Oilers organization in their hearts and community work.
His memory will be etched in Oil Country forever a fund named after him for helping children fight glioblastoma and other cancers. Throughout this season, the fund has raised over $3 million.
