Jack Campbell comments his difficult first season with Oilers
Jack Campbell, the Edmonton Oilers' goaltender, is having a rough year. He was brought in to be the team's starting goalie after signing a five-year, $25-million contract, but his stats have fallen far below his usual standards.
In 32 games this season, Campbell has a 3.57 goals against average and .882 save percentage, compared to his previous season's 2.64 GAA and .915 save percentage with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
However, Campbell's struggles may have more to do with mental pressure than physical ability. He is known to be hard on himself, and his desire to give the Oilers their money's worth may be putting him under undue pressure.
Despite his struggles, Campbell is still a good goaltender. He has a strong track record in the NHL, having worked his way up from the AHL to finally breaking through with the Los Angeles Kings. His success in Toronto led the Oilers to bring him in at a bargain price for a starting goaltender.
