Breaking news in Oil Country as hockey insider Jim Matheson reveals that Adam Henrique has been promoted to a big role on the Oilers dynamic penalty kill.

Matheson reports that Adam Henrique has been named to the Oilers penalty kill as the 5th skater. Henrique will be slotting in to replace the departed Warren Foegele.

In the PK last season season, the Oilers had eight forwards averaging at least 30 seconds on the PK per game. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Mattias Janmark, Connor Brown, Warren Foegele, Ryan McLeod, Brett Kulak, Vincent Desharnais, and Derek Ryan were Edmonton's most common penalty-killers. But now, Adam Henrique will play a much larger role.

Matheson also suggests that auditions are still being carried out to replace Ryan McLeod on the PK who was traded to the Buffalo Sabres during the NHL offseason. The loss of Foegele and McLeod is a massive hit to the Oilers PK, but Adam Henrique has been asked to pick up the slack.

As per Oilers Nation, A lot of things went right for the Edmonton Oilers during the 2024 playoffs, in which they were just a single win away from the Stanley Cup. Perhaps the most pleasant surprise was the emergence of their elite penalty-kill.

This past spring, the Oilers ranked first among all playoff teams with a 94% penalty-kill percentage. They allowed a mere four goals on the penalty-kill in 25 playoff games, three of which came in the second round alone.

In fact, Edmonton did not allow a single goal on the penalty-kill in the first round and the Western Conference Finals, while allowing just one goal in the cup finals against Florida. On the other hand, the team scored three shorthanded goals, nearly producing a net-even goal differential on the penalty-kill - an extremely impressive feat.

Although loss of Warren Foegele and Ryan McLeod changes the overall efficiency of the Oilers PK, the team still has capable players who can fill in. As it stands, Adam Henrique will asked to take on a much larger role on the PK.
