The Edmonton Oilers took on the Calgary Flames last night for the first battle of Alberta of the 2025-26 NHL season, but it's pretty safe to say the evening didn't go as planned. The Oilers were edged out 4-1 for the third straight loss in a row, but there's something far more disappointing going on than losing to their provincial rivals.
According to the Hockey Writers, It's bad enough that the Oilers have crashed out of the gate. But what makes matters worse is that it all happened at Rogers Place, in full view of their fans who paid a pretty penny for the privilege of witnessing this trainwreck.
The Edmonton Oilers can absolutely not afford to lose one more game or this disaster start to the season could have unimaginable repercussions. The Edmonton Oilers just need to start getting back to basics, have fun playing hockey, and remembering what made them successful in the first place.
The team will be looking for a huge bounce by performance as they take on the Philadelphia Flyers tomorrow night. If they fail to show up, get ready to hit the panic button because this could potentially start getting really ugly for the team.
