The Edmonton Oilers are off to another bad start to the NHL regular season.

Yesterday, the Edmonton Oilers took on the Calgary Flames in the first annual battle of Alberta, but ultimately, it was a tough showing for the team. Although the team got off to a good start, the Calgary Flames scored four unanswered goals, resulting in a 4-1 defeat.

On a side note, Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner is the centre of attention for hockey fans today. During yesterday‘s game, the Oilers netminder received a love tap behind the net from Mikael Backlund and is now being called out for embellishment.

According to Blade of Steel - on Sunday when both teams faced off early in this 2024-2025 season, it didn't take long for things to blow up, as Flames forward Mikael Backlund gave a slash to Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner, who immediately keeled over in pain as Edmonton's bench was furious:

While it doesn't look good for Backlund to be taking a swipe at Skinner, it's egregious for Skinner to fall like he's been shot. Yes, it was to an unpadded area, but it was a one-handed swipe almost like "Hey, I'm behind you watch out."

Although fans aren't impressed with Backlund for taking liberties at the Oilers goaltender, Skinner is being called out pretty hard for this blatant flop. I understand a slash behind the leg can be pretty painful but, Skinner went down pretty easily.

Regardless, the Oilers goaltender will seriously need to get his game in check as soon as possible. The Edmonton Oilers cannot afford to go down 0-4 and the team needs him to be the goaltender they saw in the postseason last year.
