According to the Hockey Writers, Bob Stauffer brought up Philadelphia Flyers' defender Rasmus Ristolainen as a potential trade target. Stauffer's pick checks all the boxes for what the Oilers are looking for, which is a right-shot defender with experience who is under contract long-term.
If Kane indeed goes on LTIR, there will be ample cap space for GM Stan Bowman to get a deal done with the Philadelphia Flyers.
As per Liam McCormick from Oilers Daily, Ristolainen was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in 2013, first round 8th pick overall. Standing at six foot 4 and 208 pounds, the 29-year-old defender with certainly augment the Oilers defence as they hold some long-term injury reserve money that could come their way when Evander Kane has his surgery in the next couple of days.
With holes in the Oilers defensive structure regarding the departure of Cody Ceci and Vincent Desharnais, Rasmus Ristolainen could be a viable option for the Oilers moving forward.
Although Rasmus Ristolainen has struggled with nagging injuries the past few seasons, he's a formidable blue-liner that could help the Oilers make a push for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
