It is well documented a this point that the Edmonton Oilers are in the hunt for a top-four defenceman. With that being said, Ryan Hall from Oilers Daily reports that the two clubs mentioned are both in rebuilding phases and are in the metropolitan division as the Philadelphia Flyers and the Columbus Blue Jackets will be looking to trade key pieces to help recuperate draft picks and prospects. The two players in question are Rasmus Ristolainen of the Flyers and Ivan Provorov of the Blue Jackets.
Ristolainen was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in 2013, first round 8th pick overall. Standing at six foot 4 and 208 pounds, the 29-year-old defender with certainly bolster the Oilers defence.
With holes in the Oilers defensive structure regarding the departure of Cody Ceci and Vincent Desharnais, Rasmus Ristolainen could be a viable option for the Oilers moving forward. Although Rasmus Ristolainen has struggled with nagging injuries the past few seasons, he's a formidable blue-liner that could help the Oilers make a push for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
On the other hand, Oilers Daily reports that Provorov is a 27 year old left shot defenceman and a former 7th overall draft pick from the Philadelphia Flyers in 2015. He had serious potential to be a star player from his junior career and sophomore NHL season scoring 17 goals, but Provorov has more so developed into a 2-way defender.
Bob Stauffer mentions that the cost to acquire a blue-liner like Provorov or Ristolainen would be two second round draft picks, possibly a third.
