The Edmonton Oilers are coming off a strong shutdown performance against the Vancouver Canucks, beating them by a score of 7-3.

The Oilers came into Vancouver with a chip on their shoulder, wanting to prove a point after ousting them in the second round round of the 2024 post season.

Connor McDavid recorded 3 points, notching 1 goal and 2 assists in a decisive victory against the Pacific Division rivals.

After the game, Connor McDavid spoke to the media, highlighting the overall significance of their victory.

«Certainly, it certainly does,» he said, when asked if these wins mean a little bit more. «Everytime you play a team where there's a little bit of a rivalry and you find a way to get a win, especially in their building, it's always big for momentum. The guys should feel good about themselves.»

«Fortunately, we've been in that situation in this building before,» said McDavid. «We gave up two quick ones and a timeout, and get back at it. I thought it was a well-used timeout.

«A lot of momentum, a lot of energy in the building, and it just gave us a chance to get our breath and get back at it.»

After making an expedited return from injury against the Las Vegas Golden Knight, McDavid didn't look like the dominant force he usually is.

Last night posed a different narrative completely, as the Edmonton Oilers captain looked to be back to his former self, flying around the ice, creating dynamic scoring chances through in a full 60 minutes effort.

The Edmonton Oilers will look to keep the momentum going when they take on the New York islanders on Tuesday.
