The Edmonton Oilers are inching closer towards a starting roster as 9 more players were cut from training camp today.

As per daily hive, Forwards Jasper Weatherby and Cameron Wright, defencemen Connor Corcoran and Alex Konnok-Leipert, and goaltender Brett Brochu have been released from PTOs and will report to Edmonton's AHL team in Bakersfield.

Forwards Matvey Petrov, Jayden Grubbe, and James Stefan, as well as goaltender Connor Ungar, have been loaned to Bakersfield.

Unfortunately, none of these players were able to impress the coaching staff enough to be kept around any longer. The most notable player on this list of scratches is forward Jasper Weatherby, an American born forward who showed much promise heading into to training camp.

None of the moves should come as a surprise, but they do push the Oilers closer to being ready for opening night on October 9. There are five preseason games left between now and then, though.

The Oilers have a 1-2-0 record so far in the preseason. After beating the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 in overtime at home on Sunday, they lost both split-squad games to the Calgary Flames on Monday (6-3 at home, 6-1 on the road).

More cuts are expected to be announced in the coming days as the level of preseason competition will be intensifying. Oilers fans will want to mark Friday, October 4th in their schedule as the Oilers take on the Vancouver Canucks.

Sources indicate that the Edmonton Oilers will be dressing their full starting roster in what should be an action packed preseason game against their divisional rivals.
