According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Last season, the Oilers gave out the painter and the plumber award after wins to acknowledge a player for their offensive effort and defensive efforts respectively. It was a really unique ritual and really popular among fans, but the Oilers decided to shake things up for the new season
The hard hat on the other hand is given to the player who shows the most defensive ability and the most grit.
Troy Stetcher definitely showed a lot of that during his outing with the Philadelphia Flyers. Stetcher has been battling hard all preseason long for a cemented role on the Oilers roster, and he's just inched a little closer by being honoured by his teammates.
Although the post game traditions are often viewed as ridiculous, it's a great way to promote camaraderie and accountability on the ice. Although the paintbrush and plunger sparked a lot of negative conversation last year, the overall sentiment with the new tradition has been positive.
I mean, who wouldn't want to wear a glorious wrestling belt and sweet hard hat after a big win?
Hopefully the Edmonton Oilers can dish shout a few more post game awards when they take on the Nashville Predators.
