Well, here it is folks! The first goalie goal of the regular season.
Goalie goals are not something NHL enthusiast get to witness on a nightly basis. So when it happens, it's a really special thing to see.
As per Canucks Daily, With a 4-1 win over the Blues, Filip Gustavsson made 27 saves and added a little prove of history to his mantle piece. The net minder scored an empty-net goal as the Minnesota Wild snapped a 2-game losing streak.
Other than Gustavsson, the most recent goalie to have scored an empty net goal from his own crease was back in November 2023. In total there have been 18 total goalie goals in NHL history, but only 10 of those came at the hands of a deliberate shot on the opposing teams net.
The Minnesota wild are one of those teams on the brink of a huge NHL comeback. After years of mediocrity, their goaltender may have just changed their fortune in a single play.
The Wild have been looking solid during the early stages of the NHL, regular season, firing on all cylinders. They continue to impress with clutch victories, and now their goaltender has just solidified what may arguably be one of the most epic plays that could turn the tide of history for this team.
