Sitting at just 2-4, the Edmonton Oilers have been struggling in virtually every statistical category you can think of. But above all else, it's the goaltending that has been generating the most concern amongst the Oilers fan base.
According to Sports Illustrated, MoneyPuck.com recently released a breakdown of their goals saved above expected model, ranked from worst to best. It factors in a combination of shots against and ranks the level of danger each scoring opportunity presents (expected goals against) to arrive at a goals save above expected number.
So far, Stuart Skinner has allowed an abysmal 11 goals on just 71 one shots. He has one of the worst save percentages in the league, and is far from being the goaltender the Oilers saw during the legendary cup run last season.
Daily faceoff has also recently revealed that Stuart Skinner has been taken off the projected team Canada roster. If things don't improve quickly, it won't be long until GM Stan Bowman starts to look for a suitable replacement between the pipes.
