Tonight's game against the Golden Knights came with a certain degree of hype after it was announced that captain Connor McDavid would be dressing after suffering an ankle injury sustained during the Columbus Blue Jackets game.
Although I hate to say it, this games confirms a multitude of concerns that have been raised about this team.
The game looked promising heading into the 3rd period as the Oilers seemed to riding the momentum after going up 2-1 from a nifty goal from forward Zach Hyman.
But, midway through the third period, former Calgary Flames defenceman Noah Hanifin wristed a shot from the point, beating Stuart Skinner 5-hole to even up the game at 2 a piece.
Just as it seemed that the game was a lock for overtime, Noah Hanifin (who has been red hot as of late) put the Las Vegas Golden Knights up 3-2 with just 49 seconds left in the game.
Fans are completely outraged with the defensive performance of Edmonton Oilers Evan Bouchard, who appeared to be lost out there for a better portion of the game.
Unfortunately, Bouchard left both Jack Eichel and Noah Hanifin wide open tonight, resulting in two costly goals, leaving goaltender Stuart Skinner completely vulnerable.
As much as it's easy to place the blame solely on Evan Bouchard, the Oilers abysmal penalty kill unit (ranked dead last in the NHL) failed to show up yet again.
As the Oilers fall below .500 yet again with a 6-7-1 record, head coach Kris Knoblauch will have to go back to the drawing board to address some of these massive issues the Oilers are currently plagued with.
The Oilers will look to regroup when the take on the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.
