Although the Edmonton Oilers are coming off a disappointing 3-0 loss shutout to the New Jersey Devils, fans seem to be more upset with Sportsnet rather than the actual outcome of the game.

Sportsnet recently came out with a formal announcement regarding a price hike to their subscription, and fans have taken to social media to voice their frustrations over a costly, underperforming product.

The subject of television and their control on how NHL games are broadcast in Canada has been an argument and a point of contention with most fans for the past several decades. This all began well over 20 years ago when the NHL chose to Geo lock all of their product which prohibits certain games for being seen and blackouts to prevail across the country.

On top of the $5.00 hike on Sportsnet+ annual subscription, last night's game was a perfect example that emphasized fan frustration. People are currently paying hundreds of dollars of hard earned money to have access to Oilers game, but found themselves "blacked out" as the game was exclusively streaming on Amazon Prime.

This begs the question - why on earth are fans paying so much for a costly glitchy product that doesn't even give them access to the full 82 game schedule?

I

t's been well documented that the NFL is the best at promoting their games and allowing anyone within North America to see whichever team they follow by paying for either NFL GamePass or DAZN for Canadian viewers another American viewers to watch their beloved NFL team.

Fans are now calling for the NHL/Sportsnet to follow suit, giving fans access to every game via one single subscription, rather than scrambling to download other services to enjoy their favourite team.
