The stage has been set for a thrilling showdown between the Boston Bruins and the Florida Panthers tomorrow for the NHL regular season season opener, but it appears that mother nature has some different plans for the 2024 Stanley Cup Champions.
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, the Panthers were expected to hold their Stanley Cup Ring Ceremony in their first game against their rival Bruins, but extreme weather will likely stop the game from being played. Hurricane Milton, currently a category 5 storm, is barreling toward the West Coast of Florida and set to make landfall on Wednesday night.
Although I don't think Edmonton Oilers fans will have much sympathy for their Stanley Cup rivals, it's still a harsh reality for Panthers fans who have been waiting all offseason to watch their Stanley Cup Champions banner go up in the rafters.
Hurricane Milton has been causing lots of turmoil in the NHL as of late. As announced yesterday, on Hockey Feed, the Nashville Predators officially announced what many of us have been anticipating, the cancelation of Monday tonight's preseason game between the aforementioned Predators and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Although NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has not made an official announcement yet, hockey enthusiasts will undoubtedly have to wait a little longer to watch the highly anticipated Stanley Cup ring ceremony in Sunrise, Florida.
Oilers Insider will be keeping close tabs on the media for further information.
