Noah Philp given team award after huge win
Oilers prospect Noah Philip got the opportunity of a lifetime against the Nashville Predators, making an impact during his pro debut.
As per Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, The Oilers teammates awarded Philp the belt for the player of the game, along with Vasili Podkolzin getting the hard-hat for his hardcore fight against Jeremy Lauzon.
Philp played the fourth line center role with veterans Drake Caggiula and Corey Perry on his wings. In 11:57 seconds of ice time, Philp and the fourth line had a great game with chances in the Predators zone. Corey Perry scored a goal assisted by Philp, notching his first career NHL point. Philp lived up to his billing of playing a 200 foot game with a high level of compete.
Liam McCormick After Connor McDavid suffered a devastating lower body injury, head coach Kris Knoblauch went to the drawing board, calling up Drake Caggiula and Noah Philp - a gamble that proved to pay off in a massive way.
During a post game interview, Edmonton Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl praised Philip, discussing his game and his potential as a player.
"To play in the NHL after a couple months after having been off for a full year, that seems nearly impossible. He's just inching closer & closer to making a career out of this."
Noah Philp's road to the NHL has been far from regular thus far. The Oilers prospect took the entire season off last year, unsure if he would ever play hockey again. Despite his year long hiatus, Philp came into training camp a long to make the team. After an impressive preseason showcase, he earned the respect of the Oilers coaching staff, and eventually got his well deserved call up.
I think it's safe to say that if Noah Philip manages to string together a few more solid performances, the Oilers prospect could cement his role on permanently on the team.
