As per Ryan Hall of Oilers Daily, As the first week of the NHL season ends, Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch is lowering his expectations from young defenseman Ty Emberson as trouble has emerged in his game
It appears Knoblauch and his coaching staff have tampered down their views of him and have relegated him to the third pairing and reduced his ice time to around 10 minutes a game.
Emberson was brought in by the Edmonton Oilers from the San Jose Sharks via trade involving former defenceman Cody Ceci. Despite the heartbreak of losing Ceci on the blue-line, Ty Emberson came in to Oil country with high expectations.
Perhaps all the hype around young Ty Emberson was unrealistic. The young defender had a mere 30 games under his belt before joining the team, and maybe the Oilers have put too much pressure on him early on.
With that being said, he's still young, but the Oilers are stuck in «win now» mode. It has recently been reported that the Edmonton Oilers have spoken to Kevin Shattenkirk's agent, hinting at a potential acquisition.
Perhaps sometime in the minors would do the young defenseman some good, and bringing up a veteran blue-liner in his stead would prove to be the wise option moving forward.
