It was announced earlier today that Raphael Lavoie and Cole Schwindt were picked up off waivers by Vegas from Edmonton, sending shockwaves down the NHL. But hold on just a minute Oil Country...
According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, On OilersNow today, Bob Stauffer said the Golden Knights may be surprised that they got both players, and could waive one of them tomorrow. If Raphael Lavoie gets placed on waivers, perhaps the Oilers get a chance to take him back.
If the Edmonton Oilers manage to pull this off, this might end up being the most epic game of cat and mouse the NHL has ever witnessed regarding a waiver war. The news of Raphael being claimed by Las Vegas was absolutely devastating to hear.
The Oilers have been getting their depth players picked apart by vultures all offseason long. Losing Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway to the St. Louis Blues via offer sheets was bad enough, but now having their top prospect gone via waivers poured salt in the wound.
If the Las Vegas Golden Knights end up taking Schwindt over Lavoie, there is a strong possibility Lavoie could be coming back to the Oilers organization. Oilers Insider will be keeping close tabs on the situation tomorrow to see how everything unfolds.
