Oilers have a 12% chance of winning the Stanley Cup
Breaking news in Oil Country as Moneypuck releases their Stanley Cup winning odds, and the Oilers emerge on top by a clear mile.
After href='https://www.nhl.com/oilers/' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>the Oilers made a glorious Cup run all the way to game 7 of the finals, the expectations have never been higher for this team. According to Moneypuck, the Oilers have a 12% chance to take home the cup, higher than any other team in the NHL.
According the the Hockey News, NHL analytics site MoneyPuck released its first batch of point projections for the 2024-25 season on Wednesday. For the second consecutive year, the Edmonton Oilers are the model's Stanley Cup favourites.
As you'd expect, they also carry the highest point projection (108.6), playoff odds (93.9%), and by far the highest chance of winning their division (47.9%). After Edmonton and Dallas, the top five is rounded out by Florida (7.9%), Carolina (7.6%), and Colorado (7.6%).
Within the Pacific Division, the Vancouver Canucks are projected for 101.7 points (5.6% Stanley Cup odds), the Vegas Golden Knights are projected for 98.5 points (3.6%), and the Los Angeles Kings for 97.1 (3%).
Although Oilers Insider doesnt condone or promote sports betting, people seem to be going all-in on the Oilers this season.
Frankly, putting pressure on this team at the beginning of the season hasn't worked out very well. The Oilers were also Stanley Cup favourites last year, but the team got off to a nightmare 3-9-1 start and their former head coach Jay Woodcroft was fired.
I think Oiler fans should just enjoy the direction the team is heading, and let the players and coaches take care of the rest. Although, being named a Stanley Cup favourite regarding "cup or bust team" does feel rather nice at the end of the day.
