Breaking news from the 2 Mutts Podcast as they have announced that the Oilers have begun preliminary contract negotiations with Evan Bouchard.

As per the 2 Mutts Podcast, The Oilers and Evan Bouchard's camp have begun contract extension talks. This is massive news for Oilers enthusiasts as it appears their top blue-liner is poised to be re-signing with the team long-term.

According to reports, the comparable for these negotiations is the Rasmus Dahlin deal from what we are hearing. Bouchard is asking for around $11M AAV.

Although Bouchard's dollar figure was rumoured to be around $10 M AAV, it appears that Bouchard's camp is seeking a little bit more - a price I'm sure GM Stan Bowman will gladly pay to ensure Bouch-Bomb's services for the next decade.

Bouchard is coming off a monster season in 2023-24, putting up an incredible 18 goals and 82 points in 81 games, which is the most productive season by any Oilers defenceman not named Paul Coffey. Bouchard also impressed in the playoffs, adding a whopping 32 more points in just 25 games.

This cemented him as one of the league's premier offensive defencemen and helped him finish fifth in Norris Trophy voting last season.
