Back in 2023, Sean Monahan suffered a season ending groin injury during his short stint with the Montreal Canadiens. This nagging groin injury for Monahan resulted in a surgery including a lengthy rehabilitation period.
Despite the injury, Monahan came in clutch for Evander Kane during a time in need, offering his guidance and expertise for a situation he's personally experienced.
Jason Gregor reports that Monahan offered Kane sound advice regarding which doctors to go with, in addition to general injury management information which proved to be essential to Kane's decision making.
This just emphasizes the camaraderie between NHL players, even if the relationships are formed on different teams.
According to TSN's Ryan Rishaug, the Oilers veteran sniper will be undergoing surgery to correct a sports hernia sustained during the 2024 post season.
According to Oilers Nation, The plan is for Kane to start the season on IR, so the Oilers have some cap flexibility, but if needed, they could move him to LTIR, said Bowman.
If Kane were to make a return to play, it wouldn't be till around Christmas. As it stands, Kane will undergo surgery and the team will evaluate his timelines accordingly.
