According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Assistant coach Paul Coffey is the perfect voice to have behind the bench for the Oilers, and now he's got a strong message for the team amid some early struggles.
Coffey himself has won the Stanley Cup on an Oilers team that was similarly stacked with generational talent, but his message is that winning takes so much more than skill. In a new interview with Bob Stauffer on Oilers Now, Coffey said that the Oilers need to fight by committee.
Paul Coffey also went as far as giving Edmonton Oilers defenceman Darnell Nurse a big shout out. During the game against the Nashville Predators, Darnell took on Micheal McCarron in a heated tilt, and Coffey acknowledged that kind of leadership.
Although Darnell's fight against McCarron was deemed controversial due to a late punch to the head, it's clear that assistant coach Paul Coffey is looking for a certain style of play that will bring the team together. With Evander Kane out of the lineup indefinitely, it's time for more players to rise to the occasion.
