The St. Louis Blues are facing off against the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight, and the worst case scenario just happened for the young Swedish blue-liner. According to Liam McCormick of Oilers Daily, Broberg was carrying the puck along the wall and took a hit from an unlikely player in Mitch Marner.
A closer look reveals that Maple Leafs superstar Mitch Marner fell awkwardly on Broberg's ankle, causing his leg to get jammed up. The horrific scene caused Broberg to go down for several minutes before being supported off the ice and down the tunnel.
Philip Broberg has been a bright star for the St. Louis Blues so far. McCormick reports that in 11 games this season, Broberg has scored an incredible 2 goals and 9 points. He always had shown that offensive potential as a prospect, but unfortunately, the Oilers lost him just as he was developing.
Averaging a point per game, this is a devastating loss for the St. Louis Blues organization. To be honest, the situation does not look good. On video, captain Connor McDavid suffered a similar injury, but McDavid was able to get up on his own. Broberg on the other hand, looked to be in serious discomfort and couldn't weight bear on his own. Oilers Insider will be keeping close tabs on the situation for further medical updates.
