Puckpedia just dropped a bombshell announcement that long time Edmonton Oilers favourite Sam Gagner is expected to sign a PTO with the Carolina Hurricanes. If successful, this will be Gagner's 16th season in the NHL - impressive to say the least.
Although many Oilers enthusiasts were hoping for Gagner to remain a member a part of the organization, fans are feeling a sense of joy for him regarding this golden opportunity.
Sam Gagner was drafted sixth overall by the Edmonton Oilers back in 2007, and has played three separate stints with the Oilers over his journeyman career. Gagner is now 35 years old and has played 1043 career NHL games with seven different teams - the Carolina Hurricanes will be his eighth team.
Although Gagner didn't see the ice much last season, his presence in the locker room was crucial. When the Oilers started the season poorly during 2023-24, Gagner kept things light in the locker room and stepped up to the plate when called upon.
As we await an official confirmation from the NHL, Puckpedia is a reliable and credible source of information pertaining to these matters.
Oilers insider wishes Sam Gagner all the best in this new endeavour.
