According to Daily Hive and a number of other reports, the Oilers will sign Dermott tomorrow. This allows for them to send him down to the AHL, which makes room for him and allows his deal to be signed and registered. That will be just a paper transaction, as he is expected to begin the season in the NHL.
Travis Dermott, who initially came to the Oilers on a professional try out (PTO) has had an impressive camp so far. Usually, PTO's don't amount to very much, but in Dermott's case, he's made the most out of his opportunity. Dermott came into camp facing some pretty stiff competition, but ultimately showed Kris Knoblauch and Paul Coffey he's ready for another NHL opportunity.
Although the team didn't exactly have the best preseason campaign, posting a losing record of 2 wins and 4 losses, there have been many positives that have emerged for the Oilers. As far as the team is concerned, Travis Dermott is far better option than Josh Brown, who was recently waived by the team. Although Dermott's deal is expected to be a two-way contract at league minimum, Oilers fans can fully expect Travis Dermott to be on the starting roster tomorrow night against the Winnipeg Jets.
