The Athletic recently published their 2024-25 waiver targets for the Edmonton Oilers.

It's no secret that the Edmonton Oilers have re-signed Leon Draisaitl to an 8 year contract extension worth $14 million AAV. With Connor McDavid and Evan Bouchard set to re-sign in 2025-26, the Oilers must make strategic waiver targets in order to maximize their cap space moving forward. With that in mind, who does the Athletic think the Oilers should pick up?

Sam Malinski, Colorado AvalancheRight-handed defence, $850,000 AAV via PuckPedia. Malinski played 46 games in the AHL and 23 in the NHL during his first full pro season in 2023-24. The Avalanche signed him out of Cornell University in March 2023 with the undersized (5-foot-11, 190 pounds) defender quickly climbing the depth chart and landing in the NHL in mid-November.

Samuel Fagemo, Los Angeles KingsLeft wing (shoots right), $775,000 AAV via PuckPedia. Fagemo is a first shot scorer. He delivered 43 goals in 50 AHL games a year ago and could be an inexpensive replacement for one of Edmonton's skill wingers if injuries hit.

Nils Aman, Vancouver CanucksCentre/wing, $825,000 AAV via PuckPedia. Åman is a solid two-way forward who appears to be on the outside looking in on a deep Canucks team this fall. Puck IQ gives us some insight into the player, including a Dangerous Fenwick percentage just past 50 percent. He has speed, is tall and slender (6-foot-2, 179 pounds) and is a persistent forechecker.

Logan Stanley, Winnipeg JetsLeft-handed defence, $1,250,000 AAV via PuckPedia. Stanley is a giant (6-foot-7, 231 pounds) with plenty of NHL past (139 games) and future (he is 26). A first-round selection in 2016 (No. 18), Stanley should be firmly ensconced as a top-six defenceman for the Jets.
