According to Ryan Hall from Oilers Daily, Talk continues to circle around the Edmonton Oilers organization that the team is looking to add a new defenseman, and it appears the team is showing interest in Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren.
This talk has intensified as of late as Liljegren has not played in the first three games of the Maple Leafs season. With the additions of Chris Tanev and Oliver Ekman-Larsson along with the strong play of Connor Timmins and Simon Benoit, Liljegren has been pushed down the depth chart quite significantly.
Analysts are speculating about the possibility of a trade, especially as Timothy Liljegren's position on the depth chart appears to be slipping. Jim Bay emphasized that a trade might be in the cards, suggesting it would benefit Liljegren and the team. He noted that teams with cap space and draft capital could find value in acquiring a young defenseman like him.
Jim Bay specifically mentioned the Chicago Blackhawks and the Edmonton Oilers as a potential landing spot, given their struggles on defense and he believes Liljegren could significantly help their blue line, stating:
As the speculation continues, the Maple Leafs face a pivotal decision: trade Liljegren or hold onto him, hoping for future growth. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining his fate with the team. Despite him being reportedly disgruntled and looking for a trade, he would bolster the Oilers blue-line.
