Two legends get inducted into the Oilers Hall of Fame
Last nights game against the Pittsburgh Penguins held importance significance regarding two Edmonton Oilers alumni players.
Longtime veterans Craig MacTavish and Randy Greg received the distinguished honour of being inducted into the Oilers Hall of Fame.
In eight seasons with the Oilers, the MacTavish native helped the team win three Stanley Cups in 1987, 1988, and 1990 and served as team captain from 1992 to 1994.
Meanwhile, Randy Greg is a native Edmontonian who studied to become a doctor while with the team from 1982 until 1990. He was also one of only seven players who played on each of the five championship Oilers teams in the team's dynasty era - two legends to say the least.
«It is humbling. Everybody says that, but for a guy like me" MacTavish told the crowd at Rogers Place. "You know, I was a decent player until I got to the (National Hockey League) and I had to adapt because there were many players, certainly on this team, that had much more talent than I did."
«I don't even know where my Stanley Cup rings are," Gregg admitted Friday. "I know I have five of them, but it's not that I wear them. It's just that we worked hard enough together to get them."
MacTavish coached the Oilers from 2000 to 2009 and also served as assistant coach with the Rangers and Oilers. He last coached Team Canada at the 2019 Spengler Cup, after a short stint with Russian team Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the KHL.
MacTavish was also the bench boss for the Oilers during their legendary 06' cup run, where they lost in game 7 to the Carolina Hurricanes. Fun fact - Craig MacTavish was also the last player in the NHL to play without a helmet.
