Breaking news in Oil Country as the Edmonton Oilers have officially signed Travis Dermott to a contract.
As per TSN, The Edmonton Oilers have signed defenceman Travis Dermott to a one-year, two-way contract on Tuesday.
The deal is worth $775,000 at the NHL level. Dermott, 27, joined the Oilers on a professional tryout agreement on Sept. 10 and recorded a goal and two points in five preseason games.
The Newmarket, Ont., native played last season with the Arizona Coyotes, recording two goals and seven points in 50 games. He is coming off a one-year $800,000 deal he signed with the Coyotes in July of 2023.
The 6-foot left-shot defenceman was drafted 34th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2015 and has 16 goals and 62 points in 329 career games split between the Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, and Coyotes.
As per Finnegan Frost of Oilers Insider, Travis Dermott, who initially came to the Oilers on a professional try out (PTO) has had an impressive camp so far. Usually, PTO's don't amount to very much, but in Dermott's case, he's made the most out of his opportunity. Dermott came into camp facing some pretty stiff competition, but ultimately showed Kris Knoblauch and Paul Coffey he's ready for another NHL opportunity.
Travis Dermott has also developed a close bond with Edmonton Oilers assistant coach Paul Coffey. Dermott has often mentioned during interviews how much Coffey's guidance and advice has positively impacted his overall confidence.
The Oilers will be looking for Dermott to have an immediate impact on the blue-line in tomorrow nights game against the Winnipeg Jets. With Josh Brown now out of the picture, Dermott has an amazing opportunity to cement himself as regular member of the oilers starting rotation.
