It's that time of the year again folks. The Edmonton Oilers will be playing host to the Winnipeg Jets tomorrow night for their annual regular season home opener. The rosters are set, the beer is cold, and the jersey's have been pulled out from the closets.
With that being said, Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli recently published an article titled: 32 Bold Predictions: Oilers will finally end Canada's Stanley Cup drought. This is what the hockey pundit had to say about the Oilers this season.
Prediction #6: Connor McDavid will become the third fastest player to 1,000 points in NHL history. He's 18 away, and he'll do it by Oct. 22 against Carolina, passing Mike Bossy for third all-time (652 games). McDavid will take home his fourth Hart Trophy. Someday, we're going to look back on McDavid's greatness and marvel at the idea that he only won three Harts during this stretch.
Prediction #32: 32. The Edmonton Oilers will end Canada's Stanley Cup drought at 32 years. They will repeat what the Florida Panthers accomplished, becoming the second straight team to lose in the Cup Final the year prior and then vanquish their loss the following year. It's a matter of when and not if - McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are not going to be denied.
Although these are great predictions from a highly respected insider, it will be completely up to the Oilers players and coaching staff to get the job done.
The Oilers faced a heartbreaking game 7 defeat during the Stanley Cup finals at the hands of the Florida Panthers. With that in mind, fans shouldn't be surprised if those tow end up facing off again at the same stage.
