Derek Ryan shares tribute to Johnny Gaudreau
Edmonton Oilers forward Derek Ryan shared a heartfelt tribute to the late Johnny Gaudreau on social media a few days ago.
Johnny and his brother Matthew were struck by a vehicle near their home in Salem County, New Jersey, on Thursday night. Unfortunately, both Johnny and Matthew passed away as a result of the accident.
Many Oilers fans often forget that Derek Ryan was acquired by the Oilers from the Calgary Flames. Derek Ryan spent years getting to know Gaudreau on a personal level, in addition to the time they spent together representing team USA at the international level.
«The legend of Johnny Hockey will never be forgotten.» Ryan said
Ryan played with Gaudreau for the USA's national team at the 2018 and 2019 World Championships and with the Calgary Flames between 2018 and 2021. Ryan spoke with The Athletic's Daniel Nugent-Bowman, saying Gaudreau was an inspiration.
The death of Johnny Gaudreau still has many fans and players feeling heartbroken. Derek Ryan will undoubtedly have Gaudreau in his heart during the 2024-2025 regular season.
