Tough news for LA Kings fans as their veteran defenceman Drew Doughty suffered a nasty ankle injury during their preseason game against the Las Vegas Golden Knights.

As per TSN, Doughty crashed hard into the boards during a puck battle with Golden Knights forward Tanner Pearson and remained down on the ice holding his left leg.

The 34-year-old was attended to by team training staff before he was assisted to the bench by teammates and straight to the dressing room without putting any weight down on the left side.

According to SI, During the collision, Doughty's left knee and ankle appeared to take most of the impact. His left skate got caught on the boards while his momentum continued, causing a brutal-looking bend to his leg. Doughty was clearly in tons of pain and was helped off the ice.

It was clear right away that Doughty was in significant pain right away. The team ruled him out for the remainder of the game after the incident.

Oilers fans have come to know Drew Doughty on a personal level over the past 3 seasons. The LA Kings have become regular first round opponents for the Oilers, with Drew Doughty leading the charge. As much as the Oilers fan base has come to dislike Doughty, hopefully his injury won't keep him out for a significant amount of time.

Doughty appeared in all 82 games last season for the Kings and posted 15 goals and 35 assists with a plus-15 rating.
