Oilers get dominated by the Jets 6-1 in preseason matchup
Welp, thank goodness that games over - the Oilers B squad gets absolutely spanked by a formidable Jets team by a score of 6-2.
I think the result was to be expected tonight. The Oilers didn't dress any of their elite players, whereas the Jets on the other hand, virtually had 90% of their starting roster playing. Nonetheless, thats 3 straight preseason game where the Oilers lose by a margin of 6 goals.
According to Oilers Nation, The Jets rolled out most of their big guns, which was a much bigger test than anything they've gotten so far. I'd even bet that a handful of players in the Oilers' room have just found out how much better the opposition is at the next level and use it as fuel to get better.
Stuart Skinner made his pre-season debut on Wednesday night behind a lineup that was made of AHL and CHL quality players. Although Skinner didn't get much help from the guys in front of him, fans were hoping for a slightly better performance. Either way, Stu finished his first appearance between the pipes with 23 saves and a .852 save %.
I thought there were a handful of moments by Noah Philp that showed me he's not afraid to make plays against a team with more skill in their lineup. Would it be too bold to think that Philp will play in the NHL sooner than later? Noah Philp has been a common theme for the Oilers this preseason and has been called the teams "hidden gem". Phelp has been a welcome surprise form the organization so far, putting up decent statistical numbers and making the most of his minutes.
Anyways, the Oilers definitely won't be playing La Bamba tonight... the boys will look for a massive reset as they take on the Seattle Kraken, September 28th, at Rogers Place.
