The St. Louis Blues took on the Seattle Kraken today for their regular season opener, and former Oilers forward Dylan Holloway and defenceman Philip Broberg combined for a total of 3 points. The Blues edged out the Seattle Kraken by a score of 3-2, and both former Oilers played an instrumental role in the victory.
As per Oilers Nation, Broberg was selected eighth overall by the Oilers in the 2019 draft. The left-shot defenceman never became a regular for the contenders, only playing 81 regular season games in three seasons, with two goals and 13 points. His career-high in games and points came in 2022-23, where he played 46 games, scoring a goal and seven points while filling in as the seventh defenceman in Jay Woodcroft's 11-7 lineup.
As for Holloway, he was selected 14th overall by the Oilers in the 2020 draft. His first season in the National Hockey League was in 2022-23, scoring three goals and nine points in 51 games. In 2023-24, he scored six goals and nine points in 38 games as he missed time with an injury before spending 18 games in the American Hockey League.
It's no secret by now that the St. Louis Blues played the vulture card and snagged both prospects from the Oilers organization via offers sheets during the NHL offseason. As much as the Oilers would have loved both their services for the 2023-24 NHL campaign, the Oilers weren't able to accommodate their price tag, resulting in their departure. As much as it hurts, it's nice to see the two former young bucks find success early on.
